Kasparov For Russian President?

6
Vote

by Rohandevgan

We all know that the United States Of America is having its elections in 2008, but another heavyweight is also having its elections the same year: Russia. The surprise or the important news from there?- Former World Chess Champion Gary Kasparov has won a primary in Moscow to be the opposing party candidate. People may hate me for this, but I don't consider chess to be a sport, nor do I call the players athletes, but yet chess forms a part of the sporting world. Now, a former world champion running for the president of such a huge country has got to be some news. Good Luck to him but I always feel that sports and politics should always stay poles apart.

I tell you what, if he wins, the metaphor of "foreign policy or diplomacy as chess match" takes on a whole new level of meaning.

And it was from 1983 I think. The 90s? Tough to get syndication on the BBC, huh Alex?

As long as he didn't own the Texas Rangers, he could do absolutely no worse for Russia. Does this mean we should counter-attack with Bobby Fisher?

Kasparov has one of the best minds in the world. He would be a great person to have in any sort of authority. I don't like sport and politics when politics interferes with sport, but this is sport interfering with politics. So it would be interesting to see what happens!

Also, he has a full head of hair! It is considered important for Russian Presidents to alternate from being hairy to not having hair. Putin is bald, so Kasparov's hair stands him in good stead.

Most chess players you wouldn't let walk down the street, but Kasparov is not one of them. I think he'd do a great job.

Now who wouldn't want to watch Premier (assuming) Kasparov play chess against Dubya?
