Born on February 22, 1920 in Staten Island, New York, Karl Drews (Karl August Drews) played for the New York Yankees, St. Louis Browns, Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 8 year career. Drews broke into the bigs on September 8, 1946 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 4.91 ERA in 91.2 innings pitched in 1947, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Karl Drews's best season was 1952, when he posted a 2.72 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 96 batters.
