The Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals played a double header yesterday, which resulted in a double Royal beating. Kansas City took game one 9-4.
In game one, the Kansas City Royals delivered one of two Royal beatings. The Royals were able to score nine runs, on twelve hits, while leaving seven runners on base and only two in scoring position. Kansas City had a killing in the first inning, with a three-run inning, added one more run in the third inning, and then five runs in the sixth inning, to totally dominate the Twins in game one.
Kansas City starter Kyle Davies picked up his second win against the Twins this season, and only needed five innings of work to do so. Davies pitched five innings, allowing four runs, two earned, giving up four hits, striking out five and walking one. Davies did give up a solo home run to Twins center fielder Torii Hunter in the first inning. Royal reliever John Bale pitched two innings, allowing one run, on no hits, walking three and striking out three. Ryan Braun pitched to two batters in the eighth inning, before Joel Peralta came to the rescue, and baled out the Royals in the eighth inning. Peralta pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowing only one hit, and one walk.
Twins starter Matt Garza lasted five and one-thirds innings, allowing eight runs, four earned, on nine hits, striking out six and walking two. Reliever Matt Guerrier pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on two hits, giving up a two-run home run to Royals first baseman Ross Gload. One of the two runs scored were charged to Garza. Julio DePaula pitched one inning, no hitting Kansas City batters, and walked one, while Carmon Cali pitched the ninth inning, allowing only one hit, and struck out two.
Minnesota's offense did not fair so well either. They stranded 11 runners, and six were in scoring position. Minnesota just couldn't seem to get their runners around the bases to score. Twins catcher Chris Heintz did steal two bases, and Mike Redmond hit an RBI sacrifice fly in the eight inning. Redmond was a pinch hitter for Alexi Casilla when he hit his RBI.
