What is Wally Pipped?

Wally Pipp was the Yankee 1B back in days of yore. Guy gets injured and some rookie named Gehrig takes his spot. Gehrig plays the next 2130 games.

The "interesting" scenario would be if medical clearance took long enough for them to get impatient and sign Michael Bennett. Then would he stay? Would another team take him as a backup? Probably. Would any teams take him as a cheap starter? I would originally have thought things like this would make him retire, but if he's serious in his comments from the article, he's more persistent about this than I thought.

Is Bennett a free agent again? I know the Saints signed him, assuming Reggie Bush wouldn't be on the board, but I didn't hear that they released him.

Sorry, meant trade. But the point is that he shouldn't be too expensive in trade, and one of the three teams going for him that doesn't get him can go for Holmes.
