[edit] Biography
Justin Wilson, the tallest driver in the IndyCar series, has joined Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing for the 2008 season.
Wilson spent his early racing career developing through the ladder towards Formula One. However, his height impeded his climb up to the F1 pinnacle. Eventually in 2003 he would receive his chance to drive for Minardi and later Jaguar. Results did not come, however, and his Formula One career ended with a single point at the United States Grand Prix.
In 2004, Wilson migrated to the Champ Car World Series to drive for Conquest Racing. He finished 11th in points with top 5 finishes at Portland and Mexico City. Moving to RuSPORT for 2005, Wilson jumped to third in the standings, with his maiden wins at Toronto and Mexico City.
In 2006 and 2007, his form continued to improve, consistently running in the top 5 from race to race. The sole factor keeping Wilson from achieving ultimate glory was Sebastien Bourdais, who won the series title in each of Wilson's CCWS seasons. Indeed in 2006, Wilson finished second five times; Bourdais won four of those races. Coincidentally, it is the Frenchman whom Wilson replaces at Newman/Haas/Lanigan for 2008, taking over the McDonald's racing team car.
At the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Wilson became the first driver from a former Champ Car team to lead a race.
