Justin Verlander and Hanley Ramirez Named Rookies of the Year

The Florida Marlins' SS Hanley Ramirez and the Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander were named the 2006 Rookies of the Year. Ramirez received 14 of the 32 first-place votes to edge out Washington Nationals' 3B Ryan Zimmerman for the NL Rookie of the Year award on Monday. Justin Verlander received 26 of the 28 first-place votes to be named the AL Rookie of the Year
On the NL side, Hanely received 105 points to Zimmerman's 101. Zimmerman received 11 first-place votes. The Marlins' 2B Dan Uggla finished third with six first-place votes and 55 points, and Marlins' SP Josh Johnson received remaining two first-place votes to finish fourth.
On the AL side, the Boston Red Sox RP Jonathan Papelbon received 20 second-place votes and finished in second place with 63 points, 70 behind Verlander. The Minnesota Twins' SP Francisco Liriano received one of the other first-place votes and finished third with 30 points. The Baltimore Orioles' OF Nick Markakis received the final first-place vote, but finished sixth behind the Seattle Mariners' C Kenji Johjima and Los Angeles Angels's SP Jered Weaver.
