[edit] Biography
Justin Rose unexpectedly burst onto the world golf scene as a 17-year-old amateur in 1998, when he holed out a shot on the 18th hole at Royal Birkdale in The Open Championship to finish 4th. However, after turning pro the next week, Rose missed his next 21 cuts in a row.
But Rose eventually shook off his run of bad tournaments and became an established player on the European Tour. His first pro win came at the Dunhill Championship in South Africa in 2002. He then went on to win three more times that season.
Then, in 2003, Rose climbed up to 33 in the Golf World Rankings. By 2004 he had fallen out of the top 50 and was mainly playing on the PGA Tour, while maintaining his status on the European Tour.
As his World Ranking continued to plummet, Rose announced in March, 2005 that he would be playing exclusively on the PGA Tour. When it had no real affect on his play, Rose went back to the European Tour and was playing both again.
Rose didn't really come out of his funk until the end of the 2006 season, where he had impressive showings in the Canadian Open and the Disney Resort Tournament. Then in November 2006, Rose notched his fifth career victory and his first since 2002, when he won the Australian Masters.
After an outstanding 2007 season, which saw Rose finish in the top 12 in every major, he reached number 6 in the Golf World Rankings, and the top ranked European player.
Rose also won the 2007 European Tour Order of Merit, given to the top money winner on the European Tour.
