Here’s another weird debate, or cool, take your pick. Name athletes from the major sports you’d like to see crossover and try their hand at another sport.

There’s two NBA guys I immediately think of that would be good at football. Shaq is a behemoth with unbelievably quick feet and raw power. I’d love to see him line up at right defensive end and rush around or through left tackles. Ben Wallace is an unreal athlete who possesses speed, quickness, and power. He’d look real mean at defensive end.

From hockey I’d love to see Scott Stevens play linebacker. He would put the fear of God in opposing offenses.

Wouldn’t you love to see how baseball’s best athlete, Alex Rodriguez or Barry Bonds & Ken Griffey Jr. in their primes (Bo Jackson was the best pure athlete I ever saw but he already did the dual-sports gig), would fair in the NFL?

Maybe a warrior like Steve McNair would’ve made a good hockey player.

If Terrell Owens could shoot it would be interesting to see him going against guys like Ron Artest or Tayshaun Prince.

Don’t you ever wonder what could have been if Allen Iverson had played quarterback instead, or not gotten into a bowling alley brawl? Bobby Bowden sure does, after all he was Mr. Football and Basketball his senior year in high school, All-American in both sports.

I wonder if LeBron James or Dwayne Wade could take a pounding at running back?

Do you think Steve Smith’s water bug act would work in the NHL?

Jaromir playing baseball…just kidding.

Bet a guy who can rag the puck like Peter Forsberg or Mike Modano could hit a curve ball, maybe.

Amare Stoudemire and Emeka Okefor at D-end, scary.

If only Kevin Garnett had a 95mph fastball…hmmmmmmm.

Retro crossovers…

Lawrence Taylor manning the blue line; Dick Butkus at power forward; Dave Winfield playing tight end; John Elway at third base; Ronnie Lott as a defenseman in hockey; Grant Hill at quarterback (beautiful pass to Laettner); Magic and Bird dueling it out, “Magic has a full count, Bird winds up”; any of the Steelers Hall of Fame defenders playing hockey.

I once heard that Brett Favre's passes in the NFL were at a speed equivalent to that of a 95+ mph fastball with a baseball. Although stepping back off the mound would certainly have been the strangest delivery ever.

I've seen Favre throw some beautiful passes, and i've seen him throw some flat out ugly passes. Either way, I don't want to be anywhere near a pass that is the equivalent of 95+ mph.

I heard Elway's passes were equal to a 98mph fastball...food for thought.

I suppose it would be a balk due to the dropping back.

Derek Jeter's flip to Jorge Posada in the playoffs seems like a latteral from a QB to a RB...Mike Tyson at middle line backer...Deangelo Hall (DB with the falcons) with his blazing speed at center field...JOHN ROCKER IN THE CHESS TOURNAMENT!

I'd love to see Shaq as a d-lineman. Intimidation at its finest...

Jim Edmonds playing free safety is the first comparison that comes to mind. Kevin Garnett with his freakish long arms and jump out of the gym hops at goalkeeper for the US team also would be nice. Derek Lee was recruited to play baseball, basketball, and football by UNC, must be tough having to choose between all that athletic ability. Mark McGwire, golf long drive champion, I hear they don't test for anything. D Wade playing running back, he's fantastic at lowering his shoulder and barreling into people. Jokes aside, there are some absurd atheltes out there that I feel could relying on athletic talent alone accel at various sports.

I remember reading someplace that John Elway was actually supposed to be a good baseball player. I'd like to see him play sometime.

Some scout who's name escapes me said Elway had HOF potential at 3B. He said he had the best arm of any 3B he's ever seen. He was drafted by the Yankees if I remember correctly.

Why not put Shaq at Tight End? No one would get past him and if he went out to pass all he'd have to do it stretch his arms up straight, everyone else would be jumping up like little kids to try and get it.

I've read an intersting article on what would happen if US pro sports stars played soccer. How many world cups would the US win with Kevin Garnett at keeper, guys like Dakwins and Rodney Harrison as defenders, Steve Smith and TO as midfielders, Lebron James as a striker? It would be insane.

If TO and Garnett were on the team, then none. Maybe if you add late-90s Shaq as the keeper and mid-80s Walter Payton to the team, then maybe.
