Just Ranting...

I’m waiting for the cable guy, which can be the most boring experience of anyone’s life, and later today, I’m sitting in the DMV to get one paper signed, which is the most boring experience of anyone’s life, and all this free time has got me thinking about some issues.

First, why create “ESPN360” if no cable company is going to provide it, and if no bar/grill is going to have it either? I mean… who is watching those games? I don’t understand the need for another ESPN network when they don’t have enough programming on ESPN 1 and 2. The UCF vs NC State game, for instance, will be on ESPN360 but the 1997 Spelling Bee or a re-run of this years Home Run Derby will be on ESPN 1 or 2 at the same time. It’s a joke. Just another way for ESPN to rape sports fans. I can’t wait until the day ESPiN folds under their own weight. Conference networks (Big 10’s already exists, and other conferences are getting their networks up and running) and the NFL Network will eliminate the need for ESPN in 5 years, and see it’s demise back down to 1-2 channels in 7, and 1 in 10. Mark my words.

Second, Michael Vick. I know it’s a tired subject, but I just think this is a good thing for the Falcons to get rid of this guy now, his game and off-field actions would have held them back another five to six years. Instead you’re going to finish in the top 3, for the NFL Draft that is, and land Brian Brohm. Brohm is the kind of QB who can make Atlanta a winner in two to three years, especially having played in Petrino’s system. Maybe that’s why the Falcons’ distanced themselves from Vick so quickly. Blank and Petrino could see Brohm right in front of them dangling like a carrot.

Third, why give someone a job in HR if it’s going to take the person a month to get to that point? If it really takes me a week to learn the arcade or kids rides, he must be an idiot, he of course being me.

Fourth, illegal recruiting in High School sports. This is a subject I really don’t understand. I can’t tell what’s illegal and what’s legal. Every year Lake Brantley steals a QB from Apopka that they’ve groomed for two or three years, and no one has caught on? Every year Edgewater steals a couple D1 prospects and starters from Lake Highland and no one notices? People have to notice this, and how isn’t this recruiting? I just don’t get it. The transfer rules are pretty ambiguous for a reason, to let teams stack themselves. Dr. Phillips is no better, I’ve actually been told their coach walks up to City League (another form of Pop Warner) kids and says “How can I get you out to Dr. Phillips?”

Fifth, Weeds. I really liked this show. It was a great show, I’ve seen the first three episodes of this season (season 3) and I’m not impressed. So far it’s been a farce of a farce. Being quirky and laid back about serious issues was how the show was always founded, but this is like the Labyrinth. Every time a character turns around it’s a new exciting path in the maze. It’s so much suspense/adrenaline that it’s actually boring. Which leads me to speculate that Big Love is the best show on TV today. It’s first two seasons rival that of Sopranos and Arrested Development.

OK, I’m done complaining.
