Born on June 7, 1917 in Latham, Illinois, Junior Thompson (Eugene Earl Thompson) played for the Cincinnati Reds and New York Giants over the course of his 6 year career. Thompson broke into the bigs on April 26, 1939 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 2.54 ERA in 152.1 innings pitched in 1939, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Junior Thompson's best season was 1939, when he posted a 2.54 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 87 batters.
