- Benjamin Harrison becomes the first president of the United States to attend a major league baseball game as he watches the Cincinnati Reds defeat the Washington Senators

- The Cleveland Indians hand the New York Yankees their 13th straight loss in a 2-1 game

- Casey Stengel returns to Ebbets Field for the first time after being traded by the Brooklyn Dodgers. In his first at bat he calls time, steps out of the batter's box, and takes off his hat allowing a bird to fly out.

- The St. Louis Cardinals play their last game at Robinson Field, their home since 1893. They begin to play their games at Sportsman's Park, sharing with the St. Louis Browns. They would use the money made by selling the stadium to establish a minor league system

- Eddie Collins doubles off of Walter Johnson to collect his 3000th career hit. He was the 6th major leauger to accomplish the feat.

- Myril Hoag sets a major league record by hitting 6 singles to help the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 15-3

- The New York Giants pummle the Cincinnati Reds, 17-3 thanks, in part, to 4 two-out homers in the 4th inning.

- The New York Giants wear plastic batting helmets becoming the first team to use the protective devices

- The St. Louis Cardinals smack four home runs off of Charlie Bicknell in the 6th inning on their way to an 11-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies
- The Boston Red Sox become the first team to hit back to back to back homers twice in one season.

- A game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago Cubs is postponed due to fog. It was the first game in major league history called because of fog.

- The first ever NHL expansion draft takes place in Montreal.

- 20 fans canoe to the Astrodome to get rainchecks for a canceled game after a heavy storm flooded Houston.

- San Diego Padres' manager, Steve Boros, gets tossed out of the game before the first pitch is even thrown when he attempts to give a videotape of a disputed call to an umpire

- Wayne Gretzky of the Los Angeles Kings won the Hart Trophy for the 9th time. He was the first player in NHL history to win the same award nine times.

- Stump Merrill becomes manager of the New York Yankees replacing Bucky Dent

- With a 2-RBI game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Eddie Murray passes Mickey Mantle as the all-time RBI leader for switch hitters with his 1509th.

- Cal Ripken twists his right knee threatening his consecutive game streak at 1790.

- Peter Forsberg of the Colorado Avalanche scored a first period hat-trick against the Florida Panthers in Game Two of the Stanley Cup Finals. Also in that game Joe Sakic of the Avalanche tied a Stanley Cup Final record when he assisted on four goals.

- Sandy Alomar ties a major league record by hitting 4 doubles in one game.

- The words "Rally Monkey" appear on the jumbotron with a video clip from "Ace Ventura, Pet Detective" in Anaheim. The Anaheim Angels score 2 runs in the 9th to beat the San Francisco Giants, 6-5 and the Rally Monkey is born giving the rest of the world yet another reason to mock those on the west coast.

- Sammy Sosa is handed an 8 game suspension for getting caught with a corked bat. He insisted that he used the bat only in batting practice and grabbed it during the game by mistake

- Bill Dickey was born in Bastrop, Louisiana. He would make his debut in 1928 and would have a 17 year career for the New York Yankees as one of the greatest catchers of all time.
