Born on October 22, 1900 in St. Louis, Missouri, Jumbo Elliott (James Thomas Elliott) played for the St. Louis Browns, Brooklyn Robins, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Braves over the course of his 10 year career. Elliott broke into the bigs on April 21, 1923 with the St. Louis Browns, and put up a 3.30 ERA in 188.1 innings pitched in 1927, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Jumbo Elliott's best season was 1931, when he posted a 4.27 ERA, won 19 games and struck out 99 batters.
