July 4th Caption Contest - Remembering Pat Tillman

Regardless of your personal views on the Iraq War, Pat Tillman deserves to be honored and remembered on the 4th of July. In an era of eroding integrity and dwindling moral principles, Pat resigned from his lucrative career as a NFL football player to voluntarily enlist into our national forces in the war against terrorism.

Too often sports is falsely epitomized as "war" battled by "soldiers" in games of "life & death" importance. Such insulting exaggerations are pure nonsense and should be put into proper perspective considering the daily sacrifices of our all too commonly forgotten men and women proudly serving this great nation.

As for Tillman, he gave his life defending the security of his country and should be remembered respectfully by all sports fans. And to Pat, even though our government initially lied about the circumstances of your passing, many Americans will always be grateful for your courage and reminding us that freedom is not without self-sacrifice.

Happy 4th of July Pat Tillman and God Bless You.

Sincerely,

Tyrone Brigggs

A Grateful American

A much stronger man than I. While I appreciate the sacrifice of every soldier who enlists and winds up going to Iraq or Afghanistan to fight for our freedoms, most of them don't turn down lucrative, multi-million dollar contracts to do it. It takes a special breed of cat to do that, and it's a damn shame his death was allegedly handled the way it was. Rest well, Pat. You did this country -- and the NFL -- proud. I'm sure Roger Goodell wishes there were more of you and less Pacmans.

I will definitely say that I can't tell you how much respect I give to the people that fight for our lives to make sure that we're protected. You'll be missed, Pat. RIP.

I couldn't be more against the war and it's awful he had to be there - but Pat Tillman was no doubt a hero. RIP.

Well done, Tee Baggs! Here's a tip o' the pint o' Guinness for Mr Tillman!

Pat Tillman gave up a 4 year deal with the Cardinals for a three year deal with the Army. He endured great torture and irrepressible teasing from his fellow Rangers for being so "high profile", yet he maintained a realism and a profound belief that he could not bear but to give himself for his country.

He should have never died, it was but a mere stupid never-should-have-happened mistake, but the fact that he was willing to die for his country to begin with would have made him a hero, regardless of his willingness to touch and impact everyone he ever met... and even more people with the stories of his legend. He was a special being that blessed us if even but for a short time.

He was a tremendous man that is Worshipped here in the Valley (for all the right reasons - he went to ASU and played for the Cardinals) and Bidwell family completely dropped the ball when they didn't name their new stadium Pat Tillman Memorial Field.

Yes they definitely did drop the ball. It's really unfortunate but the fact of the matter is money talks louder (Univeristy of Phoenix paid a lot to get their name there).

A truly selfless individual who never received the type of respect he so rightfully deserved.

If I never read another page about Pat Tillman, I will be truely dissapointed. I have never viewed such a self-less individual in my entire life. I only can dream of the day that I could do such an act that this hero did. People focus only on the fact that he left behind a lot of money and a football contract to go to war. He also left behind a family so that we could be with ours. I truely am indebted to this man that will always be remembered as a ledgend. Mr. Tillman, may your soul rest in peace and my your ever lasting memory bless those thousands of years from now as it does today. We will always miss and remember you.
