Born on October 20, 1937 in Laguna Verde, Monte Cristi (Dominican Republic), Juan Marichal (Juan Antonio (Sanchez) Marichal) played for the San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers over the course of his 16 year career. Marichal broke into the bigs on July 19, 1960 with the San Francisco Giants, and put up a 2.66 ERA in 81.1 innings pitched in 1960, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Juan Marichal's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1963, when he posted a 2.41 ERA, won 25 games and struck out 248 batters. However, others believe that it was 1966, when he posted a 2.23 ERA, won 25 games and struck out 222 batters.
