Juan Lopez
[edit] BiographyBio: Juan begins his fourth season as the Cubs' bullpen coach. Joined the Cubs in 2003 after spending the previous 13 seasons in the San Francisco Giants organization including seven years with the big league club. During his coaching career, he has gone to the postseason with San Francisco following the 2000 and 2002 campaigns and with the Cubs in 2003. Is a 1978 graduate of Nicolas Sevilla High School in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. Played collegiately at Yavapai Junior College in Prescott, AZ. Coaching Career: Juan was a coach in the Giants organization from 1990-2002, spending the final four seasons as the team's bullpen coach. Began his coaching career in 1990 with San Francisco's extended spring training club. En route to the majors, he made stops at Scottsdale (Rookie) in 1991-1993, Everett (A) in 1994 and Bellingham (A), Scottsdale and Phoenix (AAA) in 1995. During spring training 1996, he joined the Giants big league club after Bob Brenly left the organization to take a broadcasting position spent that season as a coaching assistant, then served as the team's bullpen catcher in 1997-1998. Was elevated to full-time coaching duties in 1999 as Giants bullpen coach. Also oversaw the club's catchers. Playing Career: Juan had a six-year minor league playing career, spending time in the Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants organizations. Began his professional career in 1983 after being signed by the Indians organization as a non-drafted free agent. Saw his most extensive playing time in 1984, appearing in 75 games for Cleveland's Waterloo (A) affiliate.
