Born on May 13, 1965 in San Cristobal, San Cristobal (Dominican Republic), Jose Rijo (Jose Antonio (Abreu) Rijo) played for the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 14 year career. Rijo broke into the bigs on April 5, 1984 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 4.76 ERA in 62.1 innings pitched in 1984, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Jose Rijo's best season was 1993, when he posted a 2.48 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 227 batters.
