Born on March 5, 1971 in El Seibo, El Seibo (Dominican Republic), Jose Mercedes (Jose Miguel (Santana) Mercedes) played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles and Montreal Expos over the course of his 8 year career. Mercedes broke into the bigs on May 31, 1994 with the Milwaukee Brewers, and put up a 3.79 ERA in 159 innings pitched in 1997, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Jose Mercedes's best season was 2000, when he posted a 4.02 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 70 batters.
