Jose Contreas wins 13th straight

9
Vote

Jose Contreras improved to 5-0 on the year with an AL best 1.41 ERA. He went 7.1 IP for the Chicago White Sox, giving up just 1 run on the way to a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners. It was Jose's 13th straight win dating back to 2005.

The difference in the game on offense was a 3-run home run by Jim Thome, his 11th of the year.

Felix Hernandez took the loss for the Mariners to drop to 1-4 on the year with a 5.40 ERA. Maybe with his slow start this year we can all drop the foolishness of referring to a guy who's not even old enough to buy beer yet as "king". The kid hasn't even earned the title of mayor.

Remember when he came up to the Yanks? He was supposed to be the Next Great Thing, but NYY gave him away. Perhaps hindsight is 20/20, but you gotta wonder.

I do remember when he was on the Yanks. I used to love it every time he came into the game against the Sox because they owned the guy. Now though....now I hope the White Sox keep him as far away from Boston as possible. The guy can pitch

I beleive he is also a free agent after this season. Not a bad time to have a career year.

lets not forget that the last 4 picthers to win 13 consecutive starts all won the Cy Young in their respective leagues.

Sports Writer, who were the other four? Did they all do it in a single season or were their streaks split across two years like Contreas?
