Jordan Lyons
[edit] BiographyJordan Lyons is hopeful that the 2006 season will treat him a little more kindly than his first two as a Nittany Lion. A standout prep quarterback, the talented athlete earned the opportunity to play in the 2004 season-opener against Akron as a true freshman and made one catch. But, two weeks later he sustained a shoulder injury that ended his season and he was granted a medical redshirt. Lyons worked hard during his rehabilitation and was able to return for spring drills in 2005 and played in five of the first six games last season. But, against Ohio State he suffered an injury to his right ankle that required surgery. Lyons missed the rest of the regular-season but returned to play in the FedEx Orange Bowl. Lyons has great size, hands and strength and has the opportunity to be a significant contributor this fall as a receiver and blocker. He was listed No. 2 at tight end following spring drills. 2005 Sophomore Season Lyons returned from his shoulder injury to play in six games, backing up Isaac Smolko and Patrick Hall. He played in five of the first six games, but against Ohio State suffered an injury to his right ankle that required surgery. Lyons missed the rest of the regular-season but returned to play in the FedEx Orange Bowl. He was on the field for 33 snaps, led by 10 against Minnesota. 2004 Freshman Season Lyons made his collegiate debut in the first game of his true freshman season and played in two games before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the remainder of the campaign. He was granted a medical redshirt. In the season-opener with Akron, Lyons made one catch for six yards. He also saw action against UCF, but during practice the following week suffered the season-ending shoulder injury. High School Lyons was a standout quarterback for Coach Dale Wiggins at Woodward Academy. He earned Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Georgia Sportswriters Association Class AAAA all-state honors as well as All-South Metro Conference laurels. During his senior season, he threw for 1,420 yards and 15 touchdowns, leading his team to the second round of the state playoffs.
