Jon had the distinction of scoring the winning goal for Arsenal in their 4-3 victory over RSC Anderlecht in the 1970 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final.

Jon also played for the 1979 Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American Soccer League. The '79 Caps won Soccer Bowl '79 by defeating Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-1 in front of 64,045 fans at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
