Johnny Welaj (John Ludwig Welaj) was born on May 27, 1914 in Moss Creek, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on May 2, 1939 for the Washington Senators. In 1939, his rookie year, he hit .274 with 1 home run and 33 RBI. Welaj played for the Washington Senators and Philadelphia Athletics over the course of his 4 year career.
