[edit] Biography

Born on November 27, 1920 in Wausau, Wisconsin, Johnny Schmitz (John Albert Schmitz) played for the Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 13 year career. Schmitz broke into the bigs on September 6, 1941 with the Chicago Cubs, and put up a 3.43 ERA in 86.2 innings pitched in 1942, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Johnny Schmitz's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1948, when he posted a 2.64 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 100 batters. However, others believe that it was 1946, when he posted a 2.61 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 135 batters.
