Johnny Ray (John Cornelius Ray) was born on March 1, 1957 in Chouteau, Oklahoma. He made his Major League debut on September 2, 1981 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1982, his rookie year, he hit .281 with 7 home runs and 63 RBI. Ray played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and California Angels over the course of his 10 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Johnny Ray's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1988, when he hit for a .306 average and knocked in 83 runs. However, others believe that it was 1982, when he hit for a .281 average and knocked in 63 runs.
