Born on September 30, 1932 in Witherbee, New York, Johnny Podres (John Joseph Podres) played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers and San Diego Padres over the course of his 15 year career. Podres broke into the bigs on April 17, 1953 with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and put up a 4.23 ERA in 115 innings pitched in 1953, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Johnny Podres's best season was 1962, when he posted a 3.81 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 178 batters.
