Johnny Oates (Johnny Lane Oates) was born on January 21, 1946 in Sylva, North Carolina. He made his Major League debut on September 17, 1970 for the Baltimore Orioles. In 1972, his rookie year, he hit .261 with 4 home runs and 21 RBI. Oates played for the Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees over the course of his 11 year career.
Most people believe that Johnny Oates's best season was 1975, when he hit for a .282 average.
