Johnny Mize (John Robert Mize) was born on January 7, 1913 in Demorest, Georgia. He made his Major League debut on April 16, 1936 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1936, his rookie year, he hit .329 with 19 home runs and 93 RBI. Mize played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and New York Yankees over the course of his 15 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Johnny Mize's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1947, when he slugged 51 home runs, hit for a .302 average and knocked in 138 runs. However, others believe that it was 1940, when he slugged 43 home runs, hit for a .314 average and knocked in 137 runs.

  • World Series Champion: 5 times, all with the New York Yankees (1949-1953)
  • Finished in the top ten in AVG 7 times and finished with a .312 mark for his career, 84th best all-time
  • Finsihed in the top ten in OBP 9 times and finished with a .397 mark for his career, 69th best all-time
  • Led the league in SLG 4 times, finished in the top ten 9 times, and finished with a .562 career mark, 19th best all-time
  • Led the league in total bases 3 times and finished 2nd 4 times
