Johnny McCarthy (John Joseph McCarthy) was born on January 7, 1910 in Chicago, Illinois. He made his Major League debut on September 2, 1934 for the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1937, his rookie year, he hit .279 with 10 home runs and 65 RBI. McCarthy played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants and Boston Braves over the course of his 11 year career.

Most people believe that Johnny McCarthy's best season was 1938, when he knocked in 59 runs.
