Born on September 9, 1909 in Campbellsburg, Kentucky, Johnny Marcum (John Alfred Marcum) played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 7 year career. Marcum broke into the bigs on September 7, 1933 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 4.50 ERA in 232 innings pitched in 1934, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Johnny Marcum's best season was 1935, when he posted a 4.08 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 99 batters.
