Johnny Lattner

John Joseph Lattner, born on October 24, 1932 in Chicago, Ill., was a Heisman Trophy winning running back for the University of Notre Dame. He won the Maxwell Award in 1952 and 1953 before taking home the Heisman in 1953 as well.
He was picked in the first round of the 1954 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers but only played one All-Pro season before joining the Air Force. He was injured in a football game while in the service and never returned to professional football.
