Johnny Gooch (John Beverley Gooch) was born on November 9, 1897 in Smyrna, Tennessee. He made his Major League debut on September 9, 1921 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1922, his rookie year, he hit .329 with 1 home run and 42 RBI. Gooch played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Brooklyn Robins, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 11 year career.

Most people believe that Johnny Gooch's best season was 1922, when he hit for a .329 average.
