Johnny Cooney (John Walter Cooney) was born on March 18, 1901 in Cranston, Rhode Island. He made his Major League debut on April 19, 1921 for the Boston Braves. In 1924, his rookie year, he hit .254 with 0 home runs and 4 RBI. Cooney played for the Boston Braves, Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees over the course of his 19 year career.

Most people believe that Johnny Cooney's best season was 1936, when he hit for a .282 average.
