John Woodcock (John Maurer Woodcock) was born on March 19, 1954 in Eureka, California. After going to high school at Washington (Fremont, CA), Woodcock attended the University of Hawaii and the University of New Mexico. Woodcock made his professional debut in the NFL in 1976 with the Detroit Lions. He played for the Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers over the course of his 6 year career.

Most people believe that 1978 was John Woodcock's best year, as he recovered 4 opponents fumbles.
