[edit] Biography

Born on May 18, 1929 in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, Jack Sanford (John Stanley Sanford) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, California Angels and Kansas City Athletics over the course of his 12 year career. Sanford broke into the bigs on September 16, 1956 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 3.08 ERA in 236.2 innings pitched in 1957, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Jack Sanford's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1962, when he posted a 3.43 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 147 batters. However, others believe that it was 1957, when he posted a 3.08 ERA, won 19 games and struck out 188 batters.
