John Schmitt (John Charles Schmitt) was born on November 12, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York. After going to high school at Seton Hall Prep (South Orange, NJ), Schmitt attended Hofstra University. Schmitt made his professional debut in the AFL in 1964 with the New York Jets. He played in the AFL for 6 years, playing for the New York Jets the entire time. Schmitt also played in the NFL for 5 years, playing for the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers over the course of his 5 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1973 was John Schmitt's best year.
