John Saunders (John Wesley Saunders) was born on April 29, 1950 in Toledo, Ohio. After going to high school at Macomber Vocational (Toledo, OH), Saunders attended the University of Toledo. Saunders made his professional debut in the NFL in 1972 with the Buffalo Bills. He played for the San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills over the course of his 3 year career.
