John Niland (John Hugh Niland) was born on February 29, 1944 in Quincy, Massachusetts. After going to high school at Memorial (Amityville, NY), Niland attended the University of Iowa. Niland made his professional debut in the NFL in 1966 with the Dallas Cowboys. He played for the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles over the course of his 10 year career.

Most people believe that 1972 was John Niland's best year, as he ran back a fumble for a touchdown.
