John Mendenhall (John Rufus Mendenhall) was born on December 3, 1948 in Cullen, Louisiana. After going to high school at Charles Brown (Springfield, LA), Mendenhall attended Grambling State University. Mendenhall made his professional debut in the NFL in 1972 with the New York Giants. He played for the New York Giants and Detroit Lions over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that 1976 was John Mendenhall's best year.
