John Mellus (John G. Mellus) was born on June 16, 1917 in Plymouth, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at (Wilkes-Barre, PA), Mellus attended Villanova University. Mellus made his professional debut in the NFL in 1938 with the New York Giants. He played in the NFL for 4 years, playing for the New York Giants the entire time. Mellus also played in the AAFC for 4 years, playing for the Baltimore Colts and San Francisco 49ers over the course of his 4 year AAFC career.

Most people believe that 1940 was John Mellus's best year, as he ran back a fumble for a touchdown.
