John Mellekas (John Steven Mellekas) was born on June 14, 1933 in Newport, Rhode Island. After going to high school at Rogers (Newport, RI), Mellekas attended the University of Arizona. Mellekas made his professional debut in the NFL in 1956 with the Chicago Bears. He played for the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers over the course of his 7 year career.

Most people believe that 1963 was John Mellekas's best year.
