John Kissell (John Jay Kissell) was born on May 14, 1923 in Nashua, New Hampshire. After going to high school at Nashua (NH), Kissell attended Boston College. Kissell made his professional debut in the AAFC in 1948 with the Buffalo Bills. He played in the AAFC for 2 years, playing for the Buffalo Bills the entire time. Kissell also played in the NFL for 6 years, playing for the Cleveland Browns the entire time.

Most people believe that 1951 was John Kissell's best year, as he recovered 3 opponents fumbles.
