John O'Brien (John Joseph O'Brien) was born on July 13, 1866 in St. John, New Brunswick (Canada). He made his Major League debut on July 25, 1891 for the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. In 1891, his rookie year, he hit .246 with 0 home runs and 26 RBI. O'Brien played for the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, Chicago Colts, Louisville Colonels, Washington Senators, Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 6 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was John O'Brien's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1896, when he hit for a .296 average and knocked in 57 runs. However, others believe that it was 1895, when he knocked in 50 runs.
