[edit] Biography

John McDonald (John Joseph McDonald) was born on September 24, 1974 in New London, Connecticut. He made his Major League debut on July 4, 1999 for the Cleveland Indians. In 2002, his rookie year, he hit .250 with 1 home run and 12 RBI. McDonald played for the Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 8 year career.

McDonald has the dubious honor of being one of the few Major League players to have been traded for himself. In July 2005, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers by the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later. At the conclusion of the 2005 season, McDonald was returned to the Blue Jays to complete the trade.
