Born on May 25, 1863 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John Hofford (John William Hofford) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for his entire 2 year career. Hofford broke into the bigs on September 26, 1885 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 4.33 ERA in 81 innings pitched in 1886, his rookie year.
