Born on September 17, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York, John Franco (John Anthony Franco) played for the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets and Houston Astros over the course of his 21 year career. Franco broke into the bigs on April 24, 1984 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 2.61 ERA in 79.1 innings pitched in 1984, his rookie year.

Most people believe that John Franco's best season was 1988, when he posted a 1.57 ERA and notched 39 saves.
