Born on June 1, 1863 in Cincinnati, Ohio, John Ewing (John Ewing) played for the St. Louis Browns, Washington Nationals, Cincinnati Outlaw Reds, Louisville Colonels and New York Giants over the course of his 6 year career. Ewing broke into the bigs on June 18, 1883 with the St. Louis Browns, and put up a 2.83 ERA in 191 innings pitched in 1888, his rookie year.

Most people believe that John Ewing's best season was 1891, when he posted a 2.27 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 138 batters.
