Born on March 9, 1948 in Newton, Massachusetts, John Curtis (John Duffield Curtis) played for the Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres and California Angels over the course of his 15 year career. Curtis broke into the bigs on August 13, 1970 with the Boston Red Sox, and put up a 3.73 ERA in 154.1 innings pitched in 1972, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was John Curtis's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1973, when he posted a 3.58 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 101 batters. However, others believe that it was 1972, when he posted a 3.73 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 106 batters.
