Born on May 10, 1947 in Westbrook, Maine, John Cumberland (John Sheldon Cumberland) played for the New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals and California Angels over the course of his 6 year career. Cumberland broke into the bigs on September 27, 1968 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 3.48 ERA in 75 innings pitched in 1970, his rookie year.

Most people believe that John Cumberland's best season was 1971, when he posted a 2.92 ERA and struck out 65 batters.
