Born on November 28, 1964 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, John Burkett (John David Burkett) played for the San Francisco Giants, Florida Marlins, Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 15 year career. Burkett broke into the bigs on September 15, 1987 with the San Francisco Giants, and put up a 3.79 ERA in 204 innings pitched in 1990, his rookie year.

Most people believe that John Burkett's best season was 1993, when he posted a 3.65 ERA, won 22 games and struck out 145 batters.
