Born on May 23, 1873 in Sandy Hill, Maryland, Jack Taylor (John Besson Taylor) played for the New York Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Perfectos and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 9 year career. Taylor broke into the bigs on September 16, 1891 with the New York Giants, and put up a 4.24 ERA in 170 innings pitched in 1893, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Jack Taylor's best season was 1895, when he posted a 4.49 ERA, won 26 games and struck out 93 batters.
