John Barrett (John Patrick Barrett) was born on February 25, 1899 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. After going to high school at Holyoke (MA), Barrett attended the University of Detroit Mercy. Barrett made his professional debut in the NFL in 1924 with the Akron Pros. He played for the Akron Pros, Detroit wolverines, Detroit Panthers and Pottsville Maroons over the course of his 5 year career.

Most people believe that 1926 was John Barrett's best year, as he ran back a fumble for a touchdown.
